The Speech-Language Pathologist functions as a member on a student’s educational team to provide comprehensive assessment of communication skills in pre-school and school age children. The SLP assists in the determination of eligibility to provide speech, language, voice, and fluency therapy to students identified as Speech and Language Impaired. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of assessment and treatment practices, evidence based research, recommended best practices, technologies available for augmentation of the communication process, and expected roles and responsibilities of an SLP within a school environment. Responsibilities:
1. Assess and diagnose communication disorders through test selection (including formal, informal, and dynamic), administration, interpretation, and formal report writing.
2. Implement the entire referral process to determine a student's eligibility for special education services within federal state/county procedural guidelines.
3. Develop IEPs for those students identified as SLI or participates in the development of IEPs for those students receiving speech as a related service.
4. Develop evidence-based therapeutic plans for intervention within a range of therapy service models (push-in/pull-out), and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
5. Provide ethical and skilled speech and language treatment in accordance to the student’s current Individualized Education Plan.
6. Complete ethical and accurate evaluation reports, data collection, and documentation within a given time frame.
7. Participate in necessary meetings (IEP, Eligibility, Triennial, etc.).
8. Communicate and consult orally and in writing with students, parents, educators, administrators, and outside agency professionals.
9. Demonstrate commitment to improving professional competence, while pursuing professional development.
